Fenton carnival glass originated in 1907 from the idea of two brothers, Frank L. and John W. Fenton, wanting to create unique glassware with unusual colors and designs. They created over 150 patterns with several different colors, with marigold and cobalt being among the most popular. It originally sold in dime stores, and when sales went down, the glass was then sold to carnivals to be used as prizes, hence the name "carnival glass" was born.
During the great depression, the Fenton brothers kept their business thriving by producing mixing bowls and perfume bottles for different companies. Thus increasing its popularity.
